Hairstylists are legally liable for the impact of the chemicals' they use on clients, the chemical they wash down the drain and dispose of.
 
Salons and stylists are suppose to report their hazardous chemical usage and waste to the local authorities in charge of hazardous waste in their county. Unfortunately regulation is in place but there is limited enforcement, and most stylists have no idea in the first place what their responsibilities are regarding their responsibilities with chemical disposal & usage. 
 
So what is this for?
 
We created this asset for stylists and salons so they can be transparent with their communities about their salon's chemical services impact. This is a great resource to have if you are interesting in becoming and promoting your services as eco-conscious & transparent. 
 
Aquatic life is affected by daily salon chemicals, that includes shampoos & conditioners. You can compare & see the aquatic toxicity impact in your chemical's MSDS to your reports, and submit to local water & waste management civil authority. 
 
It is important to track chemical reactions & report chemical incidents, we have designed a basic template for stylists and safety officers to fill out when such occurs. 
 
At the end of each quarter we recommend gathering all incidents & reactions and have a overview meeting with all staff to gather a more comprehensive view as to what happened, how it can be eliminated or mitigated in the future. Then take all the reports concerning chemical reactions & call the number of the reaction reporting on your chemical's MSDS.
Why?
This helps companies know where they need to improve and reformulate.
Simply put, because companies do not get any feedback about their products reactions, they do not know that a product is causing problems or doing harm. If salons & stylists build a routine of reporting reactions the industry has a chance on improving their chemical mixtures.
